Home based Business
Problems arise frequently for those who conduct their businesses out of their homes. Using one’s private residence as a publicly advertised place of business raises concerns about the individual’s privacy and safety.
You may be asking yourself this very thing if you operate a home company or are thinking about doing so. If you run a purely virtual company in which customers only ever communicate with you via email, phone, or some other digital medium, you may be thinking about not even listing a physical location.
When conducting business from home, some people opt to utilize a Post Office Box instead of their actual residence. Giving out a P.O. Box as a company mailing address is a great way to remain anonymous and secure. Yet, there are a few cases in which you’ll want or need a real street address for your company.
What’s the Point of a Normative Business Address?
Having a physical location for your company may be helpful in many ways: Work from Home or other Work from Home Jobs.
Trust and credibility
Some customers will be wary of a company if they can only be reached through a post office box number or no address at all is given. Offering a physical location where customers can visit or call you may be a trust- and credibility-building move for some businesses.
Professional image
Home-based companies are clearly alive and well in the United States today since more than half of all enterprises that participated in the 2007 Survey of Business Owners operated out of their homes. This data was released by the United States Census Bureau in 2011. Despite these facts, a home-based firm might still have trouble dispelling the stereotype that its owner is lounging about in pajamas while working from the comfort of his or her own home. Having a physical location for your company makes it look more legitimate and established.
Meeting place for clients
It is apparent that home-based businesses are prospering in the United States today, as numbers from the 2007 Survey of Business Owners, issued by the Census Bureau in 2011, reveal that more than half of all businesses in the country are operated from the owners’ homes. Despite these advantages, a home-based business may have a hard time overcoming the common perception that its owner is lazy and wears pyjamas to work. Having a physical storefront also lends an impression of professionalism and legitimacy to your business.
Where and How to Register a Company Name and Address
If you need a real street address, you may choose from a few different possibilities. These choices may not come without a price, but they all cost far less than traditional office leases. Virtual office space
If you’re searching for a professional mailing address, virtual office spaces or virtual company addresses are a great option. Many of them also give optional extras like receptionist services and conference rooms that you can hire as needed.
Mailbox services
Businesses like The UPS Store and Mail Boxes Etc. provide mailbox rentals, which allow customers to utilize the store’s street address and the customer’s mailbox number as if it were a suite or apartment number. Goods-moving businesses might benefit from the availability of extra services.

Coworking space
In the same way that virtual office space provides you with a digital workplace, coworking spaces provide you with a real one, complete with a physical location, private offices, and common areas for holding meetings and holding conferences. However, coworking spaces not only give you with a location to perform actual work, but they also provide you with access to shared resources like Wi-Fi. If you regularly find yourself working at a coffee shop to avoid the boredom of working alone at home, joining a coworking space may be a wonderful choice.
Registered Agent Requirements
A “registered agent address” is a physical place in the state where you’ve registered to conduct business in the United States, and it is required when incorporating an LLC, corporation, limited partnership, or limited liability partnership.
A firm must choose a “registered agent” to receive official notices and other communications from the government or in the course of judicial procedures (also known as “service of process”).
When forming an LLC, a business often appoints one of its members to serve as the company’s registered agent and provides that person’s address in the company’s formation documents. If you’re running your LLC out of your home, this might not be the greatest solution as the registered agent’s address becomes public record. A PO Box cannot serve as a registered agent’s address. A real, physical address is required for service of process.
To avoid having your home address made public as the LLC’s registered agent’s address, you should choose a third party to act in this capacity if you run your business from home. The independent party might be a single individual (like an attorney) or a registered agent service provider (like a corporation).
